Black Cabs are not exclusively designed for tourists in London, but if you are a tourist in London, you shouldn’t miss out on a trip in one! To be honest it’s one of those things where once you have been in one, you think to yourself, ‘What was all the fuss about?’, but until you step into one, you will always want to do it! More often than not you will come across a somewhat eccentric cab driver, who will entertain you on your journey. These drivers are of course a fountain of knowledge and they can usually tell you whatever you need to know about the city of London. Even if you do not have an enormous hankering to travel in one of London’s black cabs, you should make sure you avoid the illegal taxi drivers that tout themselves on street corners offering cheaper fares.

I once took up the offer of a cheap taxi ride from someone who clearly didn’t have a licence. I was staying at one of those cheap hotels in London which are a little out of town, and I knew that my taxi fare would be expensive. I hopped in the car of the unlicensed taxi driver and then spent the next two hours trying to find the hotel because the driver didn’t know where it was! The black cab drivers have all taken and passed the London Knowledge exam, and where they don’t know, isn’t worth visiting!
